ZASTAVA AUTO ad, Kragujevac * Final manucaturers HISTORY AND ACTIVITY OF ASSOCIATION OF MOTOR VEHICLE MANUFACTURERS OF SERBIA AND MONTENEGRO Association of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers of Serbia and Montenegro as the national association, is gathering all the final manufacturers of automobiles and the largest manufacturers of spare parts and equipment in our country. The Association as well as Directorate of Automobile Industry had been established in 1947, with the activity of planning and developing of our motor vehicles industry. Its activity was continued by the Association of the Motor Industry in FNRY, operating independently at the beginning, and afterwards within the Federal Chamber of Commerce, eventually transforming into an independent association in 1963, Bureau of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers, the nucleus of the current Association. Rapid development of the motor industry as one of the leading branches in the post war period, has led to the need of the mutual cooperation among the manufacturers for easier solving individual problems and realization of the mutual interests. The possibility has been created this way for improving the development and the competition of domestic manufacturers, as well as entering the World motor vehicle industry. As the proof of its significance, the Association was granted a membership in the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufactures (OICA ), on January 20th 1956, in Brussels. Founded 1919, with the aim of joining national associations in order to influence the development in the motor vehicle industry, OICA has grown today into an international organization representing, with its 40 members worldwide, the entire World motor vehicle industry. As a member of the specialized OICA committees ( Technical Committee, Exhibition Committee and Statistics Committee), the Association has been actively participating for a number of years trough its representatives, in the making of technical documentation, working and exchange of statistic documentation on manufacture and sale of motor vehicles, spare parts and equipment, as well as printing calendars of the World Fairs. Owing to this, domestic manufacturers are provided with the possibility to use a great number of data referring to the World motor vehicle industry. Association’s activity also included organization of the two annual OICA Meetings, in Belgrade in 1967 and in Dubrovnik in 1987, as well as the participation of our representative in the Board of Directors. In addition to the above, OICA membership has enabled the Association to gain an approval for the Motor Show in Belgrade, organized by Belgrade Fair, starting 1966, to become international and be included in the International Motor Shows Calendar, which has remained the same till today. Thus, the long-term successful cooperation between Manufactures Association and Belgrade Fair, became an important one, too. Beside OICA, the Association had also been a member of the International Motorcycle Manufacturers Association and the European Caravan Association. Successful long/term cooperation was also accomplished with the domestic institutions such as: SCG Institute of Standards, Bureau of Statistics, Ministry for International Affairs, SCG Customs Administration, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, etc. As an outcome of the cooperation mentioned and the manufacturers’ data on the production and sale of the motor vehicles, since 1966, the Association has issued an annual publication « Тhe SCG Motor Industry« distributed to the domestic as well as the foreign users. |
